The scent is composed of various fragrances. You can feel the wood, which was used in the revolving door in 2021 as the entrance of MOCAF. The smoke of the burned wood. The plants, stones, and soil on the grounds of MOCAF. In addition, helichrysum, which means “immortality." Lastly, frankincense, which is used to connect with other beings beyond humans, and so on. The history of humans and scent is old. People say that it began about 1 million years ago with the discovery of fire. Perfume, as we know it today, is derived from the Latin words "per" (through) and "fumum" (smoke), referring to the scent that can be felt through the smoke. The art of scent is called "Olfactory Art." In 1913 Carlo Carra mentioned scent in “La Pittura dei suoni, rumori, odori: Manifesto futurista.” According to Bruce Altshuller, one of the first examples of olfactory art is Benjamin Peret's use of the roasting coffee aroma in the “Exposition Internationale du Surrealisme” organized by Marcel Duchamp in 1938. More recently, Ai Hasegawa started a perfume project that enchants sharks in 2017, entitled "HUMAN X SHARK." As the global environment is in crisis, the preservation of art and modernity are beginning to be questioned. What remains on this planet may not be artwork, but art.
